Rays Manager Joe Maddon joined the Big Dog for his weekly hit Tuesday after Monday's 7-0 win over the Texas Rangers, discussing the dominant performance of left-hander Drew Smyly.

Maddon explained that he left the left-hander in for a career-high 7 2/3 innings and 116 pitches because he felt Smyly had not been in any stress during the game before the eighth inning.

The Tampa Bay skipper also talked about the confidence Ben Zobrist has been experiencing at the plate, how reliever Grant Balfour needs to regain his confidence on the mound, and what the catching situation looks like with the rotation.
